Mum's Birthday Celebration at Ben and Lynette (B&L) Maison Patisserie

Pastries and cafes are mushrooming in Ipoh recently and one of the must visit cafe in Ipoh is Ben and Lynette Maison Patisserie or also known as B & L in short. As the place seems to be special, we decided to have our had our mum's birthday celebration in this place during the weekends.

The place has chic interior and vintage looking furniture with cozy ambiance; making it a suitable place for special occasion and catch up session with family and friends. We visited the place during evening session for dinner.....it was not too bright inside but I really like the Mediterranean lighting which makes the place cozy and not too dark either - just right.

The place has only self service and menu is not given to the customers. Just walk straight to the counter and place your order after deciding on the meals and drinks from the giant menu on the wall just opposite the counter. Since it is self service cafe, there is no service charge - but the waiters or waitresses are there just to clean up the table mess and serve the foods and beverages. The thing that I don't like about Ben and Lynette Maison Patisserie is that it do business with cash terms ONLY. Given the high price tag of the food and drink, I feel that they should at accept credit cards.

It's a self service cafe

I will leave it to my next post to blog about the food there; which I can say overall we actually like the food despite the small portion. The coffees that we ordered, definitely nice and different from the usual coffee chain that we have like Starbucks.

[Wine Recipe] - Roselle Wine Recipe 24_11_2012

I was thinking to do something different for this blog during the weekend, and something pops up in my mind which is to post the wine recipe. There are so many wine recipe around that it will be too difficult to keep track and at the same time, I would love to blog about it, so that I can use the wine recipe that can provide me with the taste of the wine that I wanted in the future. Well, I can just treat it like another type of log book for this "experiment". Anyway, to make wine for home usage, it is not that tedious, just that you will need to have the correct recipe with the correct material, then voila, you can start making your own wine. Of course, for high volume production, it will be another story as it will involves a lot of machines and stuff like that. Roselle wine

Roast Tarragon Chicken at Alexis in Great Eastern Mall

Having lunch break in Alexis must an expensive one because the food portion that was served by the bistro and wine bar is not huge but it is a little bit expensive; although it is about the same as what you might be getting at The Apartment . Restoran New Twenty-Twenty [Jalan Pandan Indah]

It is not so easy to find good hawker food in Kuala Lumpur as compared to in Ipoh. Anyway, over the weekend, YenLeng and I went to this food court, known as "Restoran New Twenty-Twenty" in Jalan Pandan Indah and found it to be quite acceptable, especially since it's a rare chinese food that open for 24 hours. (FYI, there are quite a few of these food courts in the area so I'll probably frequent more of the others next time). Anyway, the first thing I noticed about the place was that it's not clean (quite similar to most of the chinese hawkers place) and the coffee ice here is horrible, just like most of the places in KL. I didn't even bother to take photo of the coffee and it's RM2.30 for a Ice Kopi, totally not worth it. Here's what I have though...."Ho Fun Ching Tong", or Kuey Teow soup with fish balls.  I don't think it's the best that I had since there are better ones in Ipoh but it's really quite good in comparison...
