My brother told me that there is a place to eat cheap steak in Kuala Lumpur and the place is around our condo in the capital. During my last visit to the capital, we actually plan to have dinner in one of the hawker which has nice Chinese food (my father suggested the place since he prefer Chinese food) but unfortunately it was close for business on that day, most probably due to Ching Ming.
So finally we decided to give this Steak Hut a try. Suzi's Corner is where the Steak Hut's stall is located and it's like within five to ten minutes drive from our condo. It was about to rain by the time we reach there and even just about dinner time, Suzi's Corner is practically full house, and guess what, not only the place is swarmed with not only the locals but with a lot of foreigners; either tourists or some expats working in the capital.
We've ordered three sets of the sizzling sirloin steak and since my mum has to control her food, she decided to order the grilled fish while my elder sister ordered the seafood platter. We also ordered some local favorite - satay from other stall while waiting for our main course, because we were told we have to wait like 45 minutes to about an hour for the food. The satay actually pretty nice, especially the sauce with the meat being tender and what I like most is that the satay use lean meat rather than fat ones.
I've ordered the steak to be at medium rare, but maybe because the steak is still cooking while served due to the hot plate, it was slightly overcook but not by much. It was served together with french fries and some steam vegetables. I like my steak to be half done most of the time, but I found that even slightly overcook seems fine to me. The beef is still soft and I can still see some "blood" oozing out while I cut the steak. Although I ordered a brown sauce, I got the black pepper sauce in the end due to some mistake in the kitchen, but I still like the way the black pepper sauce blend into the steak and it was not too spicy either. Overall, the steak was nice, and even comparable to many of the steakhouses in Malaysia, and it should not come in surprise as while I was searching for the address of Suzi's Corner, I realized that it was nominated for the best of steak category in the Time Out KL 2011 edition
What I can conclude for my first try at this humble stall-like Steak Hut? Well, definitely worth the money for the price of this delicious piece of steak. There are many places selling the same food at twice the price, for better dining environment, but if you really just want to get good and cheap steak, this is definitely the place to go.
