Grilled Chicken Ham at Yeolde English, Ipoh

Grilled chicken ham - served with wedges, salad and corn

Having eaten so many times at Yeolde English, I think the grilled chicken ham that I had yesterday deserved a post in this blog. I will blog about Yeolde English in the future, now I will just blog about this food.

Unlike previously, I will usually ordered grilled lamb with the red wine sauce, this round, I've ordered grilled chicken ham hoping that this will be the simplest meal and easiest to cook, thus getting served first, but unfortunately this is not the case - in fact, I got my servings last.

Tom Yum (Tom Yam) Noodles at Restoran Joo Heng at Raja Uda

Besides the famous tom yum or tom yam porridge and noodles just besides the Kwang Hwa School at Raja Uda, there is another restaurant selling exactly the same thing which is almost as famous as the one I went previously. Well, if you happen to pass by Raja Uda and the tom yum shop besides the Kwang Hwa happen to be close for business, well, it's alright as Restoran Joo Heng which is also along the road, is selling the same thing, almost as good as well.

*Drool*..... this is the Tom Yum noodles that my friend ordered

I cannot seems to find the name of the restaurant using my Garmin, so, we decided to set the destination at Kwang Hwa school and then continue along the main road until we see the Restoran Joo Heng sign board. We are also lucky that our food hunting plan is actually to try out the tom yum here as the one next to the Kwang Hwa school is closed.

Famous Bak Kut Teh at Good Master Bak Kut Teh at Bukit Mertajam

During the Awal Muharram holiday, my father and I have dinner in one of the famous Bak Kut Teh in Bukit Mertajam. The name of the Bak Kut Teh shop is the Good Master Bak Kut Teh. It is located at Taman Mutiara and after google for the place some time, the GPS location of the shop is at 5.360474,100.44463. It's a surprise to me that the Perodua GPS does not have this location in the POI, but anyway, since my father knows the area, we found it effortlessly.

I heard from my dad that this is the "master",  while the shop, Bak Kut Teh Good Master Restoran which is located directly opposite to this was  his disciple last time, but now the other shop is slightly more popular, I did dine at that shop before and will blog about it in the near future.

[Wine Recipe] - Roselle Wine Recipe 24_11_2012

I was thinking to do something different for this blog during the weekend, and something pops up in my mind which is to post the wine recipe. There are so many wine recipe around that it will be too difficult to keep track and at the same time, I would love to blog about it, so that I can use the wine recipe that can provide me with the taste of the wine that I wanted in the future. Well, I can just treat it like another type of log book for this "experiment".

Anyway, to make wine for home usage, it is not that tedious, just that you will need to have the correct recipe with the correct material, then voila, you can start making your own wine. Of course, for high volume production, it will be another story as it will involves a lot of machines and stuff like that.

XXL Crispy Fried Chicken at Shihlin Taiwan Street Snack, Aeon Seberang Perai

The other day, during the public holiday, I was walking around the Aeon Seberang Perai and found that majority food outlet in the shopping malls have menus that are usually meant for two person or more or family meal. I was having tough time finding food for my dinner - well, shopping around alone and dining alone is not easy.

Anyway, after walking few rounds the mall, finally decided to get myself the XXL Crispy Fried Chicken at the Shihlin Taiwan Street Snack. It is not something luxurious, but if you asked me, the taste of the chicken worth mentioned here.

Italian Cuisine at Limencello Pizza, Grill and Bar

My brother is the camera man, taking picture of us together before our dinner

One of my most memorable food activity in Singapore is my dinner at the Limencello Pizza, Grill and Bar. From the name of it, one would have easily guess that this place is an Italian restaurants offering much more than just pizza,  as well as offers variety of liquors and wine. Not that we ordered any liquors, but the settings of the restaurant is just nice - right in front of the Robertson Bridge with the beautiful night river view - we manage to catch some of the pictures, but then again this is a food blog, so, I did not post the night river view around Robertson Quay.

My turn to become the photographer, with most of our food together, behind is the Robertson Bridge
Siblings - photographed taken by my brother's girlfriend.

I like the settings of the restaurant, a lot. What I don't like really is just the service, which is not so superb - judging by the price tag that we pay to dine in the restaurant - it's just not cheap, and I don't even convert that back to the local currency. Maybe to some, it's reasonable, but to me, it's not cheap and after getting charged so heavily, we are not getting the top in the line service. First, the waiter took the order wrongly - one can argue that it's my pronunciation, well, the food are Italian food and it's so hard to pronounce, but I do point to the food to ensure that the waiter got it right. Another is when the food is served, the waiter did not let us know about the food or drink name - that is, until we asked. Anyway, they do rectify the problem the soonest possible - so this is the good thing about their service.

My cup of latte - one on the left and my brother's cup of espresso

I have ordered a cup of latte for myself and the latte is nice indeed. The steamed milk and the foam milk with nicely decorated pattern makes the latte look nice and tasty - one of the principle when preparing food and beverages is that the food must looks nice and clean. The latte is just so creamy and smooth and it is not too bitter, that I don't even need to add the sugar syrup.

Different view of the latte - really like the way they decorate the top of it

Asian Delights at Toast Box

After the long walk and exploration at the Garden by the Bay, we decided that it would be nice to have our lunch somewhere nearby and well....as many of us can easily guess, the nearest popular landmark at Garden by the Bay is the Marina Bay Sands.

Well, inside this mall, we have many choices of food outlet and restaurants from western food to Asian cuisines. Finally after a tiring walk of surveying around, we decided to have our lunch at a food outlet called the Toast Box, which has variety of Asian cuisines like the Bak Kut Teh or even the popular food around this region, nasi lemak.

My brother and his girlfriend taking photo at Toast Box

The shop has some of the European design, although it is selling mostly Asian cuisines. It's not really big, should be somewhere one small outlet size, with the kitchen in front, though I'm pretty confident that the hardcore cooking stuff will be done behind before the staff there take out the food to be served and displayed in front.

Breakfast at Tom and Toms Coffee at Tanjong Pagar, Singapore

I had my holiday in Singapore during the public holiday and throughout the last weekend with my siblings and the first day I reached Singapore, I parked my car in Tanjong Pagar area. Then my younger sister took us to one of the coffee joint, a bit similar to Starbucks or Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, but apparently this coffee joint is run by Koreans - which makes it a bit special than Starbucks and Coffee Bean. Not to mention, I never see this in Malaysia before, so, well, why not give it a try. So, we have our breakfast at Tom and Toms Coffee.

Tom and Toms Coffee

Overall, the environment is about the same like the usual coffee joint that we can see, the plus points for the Tom and Toms Coffee is that it is Wi-Fi zone. Yes, I know in Malaysia we have free Wi-Fi almost every Starbucks and Coffee Bean or even other smaller coffee joint, but in Singapore, it is not so easy to get free Wi-Fi.

Dinner at Papa John's Pizza

Tonight we had our family dinner in Papa John's Pizza.

The Papa John's Pizza in Ipoh Parade is located at the Ground floor...which is pretty near to Starbucks...about 2 shops away if I remembered correctly.

My brother and I doing a self snapshot!!

Well, the dinner was pretty good. We ordered a Meal 2, which is for 4 persons and had an A'la carte Pizza...we have a buy 1 free 1 voucher...so, it is pretty worth the money.

The Meal 2 comes with Wedges and also the Chicken Wing...

Here is the snapshot of my mom cutting the Pizza.....

Hong Kong Dim Sum at Ming Court in Ipoh

If you asked me which is the best place for dim sum in Ipoh, I'll definitely say: Foh San.
But I'm saying this partly due to the fact that I like to eat in comfortable and beautiful environment. Anyway, back to Ming Court Hong Kong dim sum, the first thing that you will realize is that it is fully packed with crowd. You will have to stand and wait next to some of the tables for people to finish and take your seats. I still fancy taking numbers and waiting for seats like the one in Foh San. Another negative part is that for most of the time, we share tables with others. If there's only 2 or 3 of us, it's better to share tables than to wait for an empty table. My friends and I waited for more than 20 mins for a seat and that is also thanks to another couple who is willing to share their table with us.

If you ask the locals (Ipohrians), they prefer this outlet for Dim Sum compared to Foh San which is just across the road. I'm probably the exception but I would agreed that the dim sum here are slightly nicer than those in Foh San...

The variety of choices that we have...

Most of the time, there will be a lady who will be carrying trays of Dim Sum around and you just pick what you like.

One thing I like about the Dim Sum in Ming Court is that they came in small little stainless steel steam pots. The dim sum here is fine and dainty unlike some that are big and overwhelming. Here, you can try more varieties of dim sum due to its petite serving.

Porridge is one of my staple diet at Dim Sum places. This one here has century eggs and tender minced pork. The porridge texture is so smooth! I do like the small portions they served here because I need to make space for other delights.

Char Siew Pao!!! This has always been my favourite since young....here, it is really nice...the meat is tender and it isn't too fat. (I hate fatty meats) and when you bite it, one could definitely feel the BBQ flavour bursting forth...

The pork dumplings "siew mai" is another classic dim sum that I would order everytime. It's a mixture of pork with prawns and a good combination of lean meat and fats. It should be eaten while it's still warm. There are other dim sum that are extremely delicious like the prawn dumplings, "Har Gow" but since I don't fancy prawns, I couldn't really appreciate it.
But my brother always like to eat these stuff....apparently, the prawn is fresh and succulent.

Well, let's not forget about the most important part in Dim Sum....the chinese tea...this is definitely a must and one must know how to appreciate chinese tea after tasting the delicious dim sum....

Unfortunately, since the place is always crowded with people, it is a bit difficult to savour the moment...nevertheless, Ming Court Hong Kong dim sum is a must for you to visit should you go to Ipoh!!

Korean BBQ and Steamboat at Daorae Korean BBQ Restaurant

It's been a while since I have try the korean BBQ and steamboat in this Daorae Korean BBQ Restaurant. One of the most important thing that is worth mentioning is the service provided by the waiters - although I can see that most of them are foreign worker.

Tasty Bak Kut Teh at Yum Yum Bak Kut Teh Restaurant

One of the famous Chinese cuisine that i love is Bak Kut Teh, especially the Bak Kut Teh in Ipoh. The reason being is the Bak Kut Teh that I tasted from Penang or Kulim or even from Kuala Lumpur are all slightly different from the one in Ipoh.

I had my dinner in Yum Yum Bak Kut Teh Restaurant yesterday and this is one of the famous Bak Kut Teh restaurant in Ipoh and also one of my favourite Bak Kut Teh restaurant in Ipoh, another one being Restaurant Soon Lee.

Anyway, back to the Yum Yum Bak Kut Teh Restaurant, the restaurant is actually located in opposite Taman Shatin. You can also visit www.yumyumbakkutteh.com.my for more information on the restaurant. The Bak Kut Teh, I must say, I like it very much compare to those in the northern side or many other places because I feel that the soup is nice. I have tried few Bak Kut Teh in the northern region, but I still feel the Bak Kut Teh in Ipoh suit me most.

We ordered pork knuckles vinegar or something like that, the Bak Kut Teh and a plate of vegetable - well, just more than enough for the five of us. The Bak Kut Teh soup that we have here is definitely and easily tastier than those I have in Penang area or Kulim area. Those area somehow serving Bak Kut Teh soup that taste a little bit bitter, maybe due to they have more herbs.

The pork knuckles vinegar taste just nice for my liking, just as the Bak Kut Teh soup taste just good enough for me. Another different I notice between the Bak Kut Teh in Ipoh are usually served with pork meat, while those in Penang and Kulim served with pork meat balls - or maybe I don't know how to order there, something that I always wondered since the first time I tried the Bak Kut Teh there. Hmm....

The Bak Kut Teh will cost RM7 per person, so, if one happens to drop by Ipoh, don't forget to drop by this restaurant to try out one of the tastiest Bak Kut Teh soup in town.

Shallot Pepper Chicken at Smel's Cafe

I just posted Sumptuous Western Food at Beacon Point, Ipoh last week and my intention was not to post another western food until another few post, but I just been to this place at Chai Leng Park and the food that I had in this small western food cafe worth mentioning in this blog.

The cafe that I went earlier today is the Smel's Cafe, which is located in one of the residential area in Chai Leng Park - well, in fact, the cafe itself was a semi-detached house before converted and renovated into a small cafe. If you guys would like to know about the cafe, it is located at 20 Lebuhraya Kurau,Taman Chai Leng Perai, Pulau Pinang 13700.

Sumptuous Western Food at Beacon Point

We have so many western food like chicken chops, fish and chips or grilled lamb easily available at most of the food courts in Malaysia that it seems having western food as part of our weekly meal has become almost a norm to everyone.

However, on Wednesday after moving in some stuff to my house in Ipoh Garden East, my sister recommend us to have lunch at the Beacon Point. Outside the shop, you will not realized that this humble shop will serve you western food that can match even the five star hotels.

It seems to me that Beacon Point started out as a bakery, and till now, it still serves some of the best cakes and breads. I can see a lot of delicious cakes from where I sit.....and although the shop looks a bit shabby, it still have one of the best environment that one can wish for during lunch hour.

Famous Tom Yum (Tom Yam) Noodles and Porridge at Raja Uda

Yesterday a friend and I went to try out one of the famous Tom Yum at Raja Uda. There are few famous Tom Yum at Raja Uda, but I want to give this shop a try first. If you asked me, there is no sign board of the shop name, so, if you were to ask me about the shop name, I also don't know is the shop name.

Anyway, without a proper sign board, the place is like full almost all the time - so you can roughly guess how famous is the Tom Yum in this place. The shop is actually located few shops after a primary school, Kwang Hwa Primary School (SJK (C) Kwang Hwa. If you are planning to there by using GPS, you can search location like the school or a nearby condominium Cassia and after that asked the people around......and they can directly show you where to go, just within few minutes of walking distance. Anyway, here is my Fourquare check-in details.

My bowl of Tom Yum porridge with Chinese bullfrog.........Yummy!!!

Hong Seng Restaurant, Sentosa

Life in Kuala Lumpur is quite tough, especially when I had to endure the food that is nothing close to Ipoh's food...even talking about the food in Ipoh gives a yummy feeling!!

Anyway, last weekend, my friends and I decided to go to Sentosa in Petaling Jaya to eat the famous roast pork and chicken rice there. We used to go there for makan once a while during our university days.

Curry Mee at Keng Nam Coffee Shop

If you happen to be stop by in Ipoh early morning and have no idea on what to eat, take a trip to Cowan Street and then you can see there are many famous hawker food around. One of it being the Keng Nam Coffee Shop.

Yummy!!!

The shop is located almost towards the end of the Cowan Street, and it's just walking distant from the Tower Regency Hotel. So, if you are staying in this hotel, you can get loads of food by just walking across the street, and there you go.......Keng Nam Coffee Shop. It is usually quite crowded early in the morning, so, if you wanted to have a taste of the curry mee in Keng Nam Coffee Shop, make sure you wake up early so that you won't end up disappointed.

Eight Course Meal at Prosperous Restaurant

Jason's Food Haven

Since last few years actually I have been planning to start a blog on food, mainly about my food tasting adventure all over Malaysia, but mainly in Penang, Ipoh and KL where I usually will be around - and I found that good food from Malaysia are usually from these three areas. Well, I have been procrastinating for so long, so, I guess it's time I really start to blog about all the food that I have tasted over the last few years and moving forward.

Food for me not only just to fill my stomach, but food also represents the culture and taste of people who resides in different places - thus even though we have same food in different location, these food might taste differ a little from one another......not only because the cook is different, but the culture and the taste of the people around the area will be different as well.

Food also represents the love and the fellowship of family and friends. Family and friends tend to gather around to have good food, either dine outside of the house or in the house where everyone will be gathering together with their own recipe for everyone to enjoy.
