Asian Delights at Toast Box

After the long walk and exploration at the Garden by the Bay, we decided that it would be nice to have our lunch somewhere nearby and well....as many of us can easily guess, the nearest popular landmark at Garden by the Bay is the Marina Bay Sands.

Well, inside this mall, we have many choices of food outlet and restaurants from western food to Asian cuisines. Finally after a tiring walk of surveying around, we decided to have our lunch at a food outlet called the Toast Box, which has variety of Asian cuisines like the Bak Kut Teh or even the popular food around this region, nasi lemak.

The shop has some of the European design, although it is selling mostly Asian cuisines. It's not really big, should be somewhere one small outlet size, with the kitchen in front, though I'm pretty confident that the hardcore cooking stuff will be done behind before the staff there take out the food to be served and displayed in front.

Food wise, the taste is not extremely good, just good enough to fill my stomach - maybe because I was very hungry and tired after few hours of walk around the Garden by the Bay. Well, my elder sister and I ordered a nasi lemak and it taste like those nasi lemak that I can get from the Old Town Kopitiam joint back in Malaysia and to me, this is a passing mark. At least, they did not cook the nasi lemak with sugar. It's not too spicy for my liking, just slighty spicy, compare to some that we can get back in Malaysia.

My brother, on the other hand, ordered a Bak Kut Teh set, and expected, the Bak Kut Teh did not taste as good as what we can get back in Ipoh or the famous Bak Kut Teh in Klang. I suspect because of lesser herbs in the soup, thus the Bak Kut Teh soup did not taste as what we would really like.

Next, my younger sister ordered the laksa set. Laksa is something I find strange as the laksa I had back in Malaysia usually is asam laksa, where as in Singapore when it is call laksa, it usually mean laksa lemak and somehow I find that the laksa in Singapore taste like curry noodle back in Malaysia. Anyway, out of expectation, the laksa did not turn out like laksa lemak. It sure looks a lot like asam laksa, but the laksa soup lack of the sour taste from laksa.

My brother's girlfriend ordered the porridge set, in which I did not taste, but from the look of it, it sure looks yummy.

Porridge that I brother's girlfriend ordered. It sure looks yummy.
Overall, I would not rate the food highly, food will probably scored 5 out of 10. The environment and the shop design is worth mentioning and I would probably rate it as high as 7 out of 10. The food pricing is worth mentioning as it is one of the most affordable food outlet around the Marina Bay Sands.

    1. Hmm, I'm quite sure my sister ordered a laksa, but thanks for your information. Maybe I heard wrongly from her.

    2. Yup...I asked again. Guess that the laksa looks a lot like Mee Siam, or we get the wrong dish on our table.

    3. Maybe they got your order wrong. Laksa is spicy with thick Beehoon while Mee Siam is spicy and sour with thin Beehoon.

    4. Yup. That might just happened, and since the laksa is so different in Singapore and Malaysia, we have no idea they are getting our order wrong.

[Wine Recipe] - Roselle Wine Recipe 24_11_2012

I was thinking to do something different for this blog during the weekend, and something pops up in my mind which is to post the wine recipe. There are so many wine recipe around that it will be too difficult to keep track and at the same time, I would love to blog about it, so that I can use the wine recipe that can provide me with the taste of the wine that I wanted in the future. Well, I can just treat it like another type of log book for this "experiment". Anyway, to make wine for home usage, it is not that tedious, just that you will need to have the correct recipe with the correct material, then voila, you can start making your own wine. Of course, for high volume production, it will be another story as it will involves a lot of machines and stuff like that. Roselle wine

The Wondrous of Jalan Yau Tet Shin

Jalan Yau Tet Shin It must be a surprise that I am blogging about a street in Ipoh, but this street is hard to be missed especially to those who stopped by Ipoh. Reason being, the Jalan Yau Tet Shin is famous for its mouthwatering hawker food and it is a must stop by area when someone passes the quiet town of Ipoh. In fact, one can easily see a lot of local tour buses stopping by for the people to dine and pack some of the local favourites confectioneries back home.
