Famous Fried Porridge At Fong Ting Siew Restaurant

While trying to clean up and review the camera roll in my iPhone 4, I realized that there is this famous place to dine in Kedah which I think worth mentioning in this blog. One of the reason is because almost every time when my mum come over to the northern region with my siblings, we are almost definite to have our dinner in this small town, Serdang.

It is just actually about 30 minutes drive from Kulim, where I work. This famous place is called the Fong Ting Siew Restaurant, or Restoran Fong Ting Siew. The restaurant is at 71A, Jalan Raya, Taman Melur, 09800 Serdang, Kedah. GPS coordinate is at 5.20444, 100.61105. I don't really know the official business hour, but we usually reached the restaurant at about 6.30p.m, so I would say that to be on the safe side, start the journey from Kulim or the Bandar Baru toll 6.00p.m.

The famous food in this restaurant is definitely the famous fried porridge. I found it hard to believe when I first heard of fried porridge, I mean, how on Earth that people can fry porridge, but after having the first taste of the porridge, I found that it is definitely one of the best porridge that I've ever tasted before.

The fried porridge tastefully fried into perfection with spring onions, small slices of pork meat and dried baby prawns.

The porridge definitely went through frying process before serving to the customers, but I don't know how it is cook. I just know that the fried porridge was fried into perfection together with small slices of pork meat, dried baby prawns and spring onions. The fried porridge must be eaten while hot, so that one can smell sweet combination smell of the porridge with the ingredients and I think that is also the purpose of having porridge fried.

Overall, I would say that the fried porridge is reasonably price, and there are other tasty food in the restaurant, but then again, it will be for another blog post. If one happen to stop by in Kulim, do take the extra effort to travel to Serdang to have a taste of this unique food. I'm sure that the taste of this fried porridge will make the trip worthwhile. It's for non-Muslim, though as it is cook together with pork.

[Wine Recipe] - Roselle Wine Recipe 24_11_2012

I was thinking to do something different for this blog during the weekend, and something pops up in my mind which is to post the wine recipe. There are so many wine recipe around that it will be too difficult to keep track and at the same time, I would love to blog about it, so that I can use the wine recipe that can provide me with the taste of the wine that I wanted in the future. Well, I can just treat it like another type of log book for this "experiment". Anyway, to make wine for home usage, it is not that tedious, just that you will need to have the correct recipe with the correct material, then voila, you can start making your own wine. Of course, for high volume production, it will be another story as it will involves a lot of machines and stuff like that. Roselle wine

Restoran New Twenty-Twenty [Jalan Pandan Indah]

It is not so easy to find good hawker food in Kuala Lumpur as compared to in Ipoh. Anyway, over the weekend, YenLeng and I went to this food court, known as "Restoran New Twenty-Twenty" in Jalan Pandan Indah and found it to be quite acceptable, especially since it's a rare chinese food that open for 24 hours. (FYI, there are quite a few of these food courts in the area so I'll probably frequent more of the others next time). Anyway, the first thing I noticed about the place was that it's not clean (quite similar to most of the chinese hawkers place) and the coffee ice here is horrible, just like most of the places in KL. I didn't even bother to take photo of the coffee and it's RM2.30 for a Ice Kopi, totally not worth it. Here's what I have though...."Ho Fun Ching Tong", or Kuey Teow soup with fish balls.  I don't think it's the best that I had since there are better ones in Ipoh but it's really quite good in comparison...
