In Malaysia, I've been to a number of Japanese restaurants but I don't really see any of the restaurants with the Japanese feel - nor the restaurant is decorated in authentic Japanese theme.
It is an eye opener for me to have a real "Japanese" dining experience at the Syun Izakaya during my last business trip to Oregon, United States. The restaurant really give me the feel that I was having my dinner in Japan, mainly because of the decoration - although I don't recall seeing the conveyer belt fetching sushi around the restaurant.
So, I've ordered a sushi set and some sashimi; I cannot really recall what are those call from the menu, but I'm pretty sure that it was sushi or sashimi and there are some California rolls. The sushi are really fresh, the vinegar-ed rice is served in the room temperature with some of the freshest fish or seafood that I've come about. The meat will just melt in my mouth within seconds.
My colleagues and I also ordered a bottle of sake and to be honest, it's actually my first time tasting sake and the sake taste like the liquor that I bought home previously from Chengdu. Drinking sake after the dinner feels awesome, although I know that my colleague order sake which taste less bitter as I don't like it bitter.
Overall, I like Syun Izakaya very much and it is definitely one of the most unforgettable dining experience during my time in Oregon and definitely will give Syun Izakaya another round if there is an opportunity to travel to the United States once again.
