Assam Laksa and Siam Laksa at Kim Laksa, Balik Pulau, Penang

While on the way back to Ipoh from Penang after my sister convocation ceremony, my father decided to stop by Balik Pulau to try out the famous laksa there. We know that Kim Laksa is one of the famous one, so we stop by Kim Laksa which is located in one of the old corner shop at Balik Pulau.

Each of us ordered the Assam Laksa and since I read that Siam Laksa is a must in Foursquare, we decided to order a bowl to try out. It doesn't take long before our food is served despite the full house crowd, as it is a small shop and have within ten tables.

Assam Laksa

The Assam Laksa is served with the spoon of sweet prawn paste (har kau) like what most assam laksa at the northern region is served compare to the one in my hometown. The laksa consists of rice noodle (lai fun) and spicy (but not so spicy) sweet and sour soup with a lot of minced fish mixed with mint  leaves and onions to give it the sour taste while mixing the sweet prawn paste will give the original Assam Laksa taste. Honestly if you ask me about the taste of the laksa, I would say that the Assam Laksa here is so-so only.

Siam Laksa (Laksa Lemak)

The Siam Laksa is the laksa lemak that we usually ordered elsewhere. While most part of the laksa is about the same as the assam laksa, the soup is slightly yellowish orange in color, most likely due to the coconut milk paste.

Overall, the taste of the laksa that we had considered above average and the price is within the acceptable range; but the portion is on the small side. If one is thinking to go Balik Pulau for the laksa, I would say there are better laksa elsewhere and there is no need to drive so far just to taste the laksa, unless you have nothing else to do but to go for food hunting.

[Wine Recipe] - Roselle Wine Recipe 24_11_2012

I was thinking to do something different for this blog during the weekend, and something pops up in my mind which is to post the wine recipe. There are so many wine recipe around that it will be too difficult to keep track and at the same time, I would love to blog about it, so that I can use the wine recipe that can provide me with the taste of the wine that I wanted in the future. Well, I can just treat it like another type of log book for this "experiment". Anyway, to make wine for home usage, it is not that tedious, just that you will need to have the correct recipe with the correct material, then voila, you can start making your own wine. Of course, for high volume production, it will be another story as it will involves a lot of machines and stuff like that. Roselle wine

Roast Tarragon Chicken at Alexis in Great Eastern Mall

Having lunch break in Alexis must an expensive one because the food portion that was served by the bistro and wine bar is not huge but it is a little bit expensive; although it is about the same as what you might be getting at The Apartment . Hong Kong Dim Sum BFB in Ipoh

HONG KONG DIM SUM BFB Today, my mom, brother and I went for a new dim sum place in Ipoh. Not exactly new but we have never been to this one, and surprisingly, it was good. Before this, I normally would only go to Foh San for dim sum in Ipoh.  While the environment here is definitely not as great as in Foh San, the food is as good, if not even better.  the menu displayed... The two of my favourite dim sum: fishball and char siew pau and they taste great. The fishball looks great. The char siew pau is also very good.  Besides that, my brother and mom also love the other foods served while we eat dim sum. Here are the foods taken with my phone...yummy!!  Perhaps the only downside to things are the environment...definitely doesn't bring out the atmosphere and environment like when I'm in places like Foh San, Dragon-i, etc....but the price is great. Kinda cheap for the great taste!!
