Jalan Yau Tet Shin |
It must be a surprise that I am blogging about a street in Ipoh, but this street is hard to be missed especially to those who stopped by Ipoh. Reason being, the Jalan Yau Tet Shin is famous for its mouthwatering hawker food and it is a must stop by area when someone passes the quiet town of Ipoh. In fact, one can easily see a lot of local tour buses stopping by for the people to dine and pack some of the local favourites confectioneries back home.

The famous giant bean sprout of Ipoh |
The street will be crowded almost every day when the Ipoh Famous Taugeh-Chicken (taugeh is the Malay word for bean sprout) such as Lou Wong and Onn Kei is open. The two shops previously opened after dinner time until midnight but now the official business hour is from 10a.m onwards, and the most surprising thing is, we actually get this piece of information from people out of Ipoh.

Of course there are other tantalizing local favourite such as the Tuck Kee and Sun Tuck Kee, both specializing in the fried hor fun (flat noodle), Wat Tan Hor, or other type of noodles and the fried hor fun that the Ipoh has is almost totally different from the Char Kuey Teow from the northern region like Penang or Kedah where it is almost very dry and usually it is spicy. Both Tuck Kee and Sun Tuck Kee only operates for dinner session.

One of the famous confectioneries from Ipoh |
Next, along the street one can shop for famous confectioneries from Ipoh and other Ipoh famous food like the white coffee; although a lot of these three in one Ipoh white coffee can be bought at many other departmental store.
Besides the confectioneries shops, there is a famous store selling soya bean drinks and Tau Fu Fah, the Funny Mountain. If one is thinking of what to do when stopping over at Ipoh, a day trip along the Jalan Yau Tet Shin might gained one few pounds after whole day of eating and shopping around the area.
Ipoh, the best place for makan!!
